Breaks Down More Often
If we’re coming out to your home once or twice a month, your furnace or boiler may be on its way out. In circumstances where a repair would be half or more of the cost of a new furnace installation, replacing the unit would probably be more cost-effective.
Makes Strange Noises
Do you hear rattling, popping, or banging noises when your furnace kicks on? Is the blower constantly turning on or off? These sounds—which often result from bent or broken parts—are indicative of a furnace that’s reached the end of its lifespan.
The average service life of a gas furnace is 15-20 years. If your unit is entering that range, it may not be worth it to spend more money on repairs. If you don’t know how old your furnace is, you can look up the model number to get a better idea of its manufacture date.
